VE Day Celebration

As part of our school VE day celebrations each child was asked to bring a stone to school.  Over the last few days, children painted their stones and today we created a beautiful art installation on the playground to share with our school community.  Tomorrow the stones will be collected to create a VE Day trail around Wall Heath. Take a look at some of the amazing, detailed artwork.  Do you know where your stone is?

Some of our older children reflected on their thoughts and feelings about VE day.

“When I was painting my rock, I was thinking about how we weren’t painting the rocks for us, we are painting them for the community.  It’s like when the soldiers fought for me and the rest of the world”.    Freya

“When we were playing games I thought about how some children had to play in fear of the air raid shelter alarm going off”. Jake C

” While I was playing different games, I thought about how lucky I am to not be in fear; it must have been really hard to think that a German bomber could drop a bomb at any time.  I love running around, having a good time without thinking of running to an air raid shelter”.  Lauren

VE Day Celebrations

Today the children have taken part in a range of celebrations for VE Day to mark 80 years since the end of World War II. The children brought in pebbles from home and have painted them with a design linked to VE Day. They have all had a VE Day decorated cupcake and tried British scones with jam.

Look out for our pebbles around Wall Heath!

Forest School 2S

This week, year 2 had another brilliant session, full of creativity, exploration, and connection with nature. We began by discussing how we are all part of nature and how we can take care of our Forest School area.

The children painted with natural earth paints, crafted dens through fantastic teamwork and problem-solving, and got gloriously muddy digging a river in the mud pit! Our mud kitchen chefs also whipped up some imaginative culinary delights.

Snack time we enjoyed fruit kebabs and soft brioche bread under the canopy. We gathered for the story of How the Birds Became Friends, which sparked thoughtful conversations about kindness and how we treat our friends.

There was plenty of hands-on learning, too – the children used a bow saw, hammers, and nails to create their own wooden fidget spinners. We also played a brand-new game that had everyone laughing.

Another magical day in the woods.

Where in the world is India?

In Year 1 and 2, we have launched a new topic this week where we will find out all about India. Children located India on a world map and identified some of its surrounding countries. We explored some facts about India, such as population and the name of the capital city.

Children also took part in the following song to help them remember the oceans!

Phonics Workshop for Year 1 Parents

As you are already aware, the children in Year 1 will undertake the statutory Phonics screening check between June 9th and June 13th , 2025. School will be required to administer the check to every eligible child between these dates.

This check assesses whether the children are reading at the expected standard for their age group or not. There is a pass mark, but this is not published until after the check has been administered.

Children who do not meet the pass mark are required to resit the check in Year 2. In preparation for this we would like to invite you to a parent workshop on Wednesday 7th May 2025 at 6.30pm to go through the expectations and how best to prepare and support your child for this check.

This team placed 1st in their group with Lyla placing 1st as the best gymnast amongst all teams competing, and Ava and Olivia being joint 2nd individuals and Tilly being 3rd.

Intermediate

Our intermediate team competed really well and placed second in their group.

Active

This team came 1st in their group with Ivy placing 3rd best gymnast, Keira placing 2nd and Arabella placing 1st.

We are so proud of the medals and trophies that the children have all achieved!

Timber Houses

In DT children have talked about and made a house that looks like those in London a long ago. They have explored simple hinge mechanisms for a door and understand which tools they need to make their product. Have a look at our creations below…

Trunk Theatre: Great Fire of London

Year 1 and 2

On Monday we had some very special visitors who taught us about The Great Fire of London. They were very impressed by how much we knew already! Victoria and Holly acted out the events of The Great Fire of London. They were very funny!

We sang ‘London’s Burning’ and we also did some dancing too.

We played a game where we had to work in teams to fetch water to put the fire out.

We joined in with some acting. We wiggled a sheet of fabric for the River Thames!

In this picture, volunteers are helping Samuel Pepys to find his cheese!

At the end we had to rebuild London after the fire. We did this by drawing pictures.
