Head teacher’s update
What a great first week of the term, we have had! There was a lot to celebrate in this morning’s Praise Assembly from both outside activities and from lessons. Well done to 5/6M for having the highest attendance, this week.
I had the pleasure of taking some of our School Council representatives to meet with the Black Country Food Bank, today. Following our successful Harvest Festival collection, we were asked if we would support with the promotional materials for next year’s campaign. Thank you to our 3 pupils from year 5 who agreed to be filmed talking about food poverty and the importance and impact of the donations that we collect.
We are very much looking forward to the Spring Festival on 16th May. Thank you very much to all of those who have volunteered to support with the event – it is very much appreciated. Further details will be sent out nearer the time regarding end of the day arrangements for collecting children.
Collective Worship
This week, our focus in collective worship has been the core value of honesty. We talked about the importance of being honest and accountable for actions. However, we also thought about filtering our words as they can either uplift or destroy. Before we speak, we have agreed that we should consider whether what we are about to say is honest, kind, necessary and timely.
Our Worship Leaders took over Thursday’s assembly and introduced this term’s focus of ‘keep learning’. Thank you very much to the students for leading such a thought provoking assembly.

Phonics Workshop for Year 1 Parents
As you are already aware, the children in Year 1 will undertake the statutory Phonics screening check between June 9th and June 13th , 2025. School will be required to administer the check to every eligible child between these dates.
This check assesses whether the children are reading at the expected standard for their age group or not. There is a pass mark, but this is not published until after the check has been administered.
Children who do not meet the pass mark are required to resit the check in Year 2. In preparation for this we would like to invite you to a parent workshop on Wednesday 7th May 2025 at 6.30pm to go through the expectations and how best to prepare and support your child for this check.

Year 4 Church Visit
This week year 4 went over to church. We got to spend some time in the sun. We learnt lots about the Christian Calendar and all the days and celebrations that happen, we made Trinity bracelets and we made reflection book marks.
Reading Race
The race is on to see which class in Upper Key Stage 2 will reach their reading targets first.

Where in the world is India?
In Year 1 and 2, we have launched a new topic this week where we will find out all about India. Children located India on a world map and identified some of its surrounding countries. We explored some facts about India, such as population and the name of the capital city.

Children also took part in the following song to help them remember the oceans!
Allotment Update
There are clear signs of growth in the Year 5/6 allotment area.
