Good Health Week in 4C!

This week in 4C, we have been busy learning about all the ways to look after ourselves and keep us safe. Here is a quick run through all the exciting things we have been doing:

Monday – Making healthy pizzas and Taekwondo.

On Monday, we got to use our planning form the previous week to create our very own healthy pizzas. We got to eat them on the afternoon so that we could complete our evaluations, they smelt and tasted delicious!

Monday afternoon, we were lucky to get a visit from Golden Martial Arts. We got to have some fun learning what kind of activities you do when learning Taekwondo. It got us moving lots and our heart rates racing.

Tuesday – RNLI, Reflexions and Fire Safety

To start our day, we were visited by Caroline a volunteer for the RNLI charity. She spoke to us about keeping safe around water and what we need to do in an emergency situation.

Next, Hayley from Reflexions came to speak to us about our feelings and emotions. We talked about stress and anxiety and things we can do to help us feel better.

To end the busy day, the Fire Brigade came in to talk to us about fire safety, water safety and road safety. Below you can see us learning about Stop, Drop and Roll!

Wednesday – Blue Cross, Sugar Swap and First Aid

On Wednesday, we were visited by Geraldine, from the blue cross. She did a fantastic job of teaching us how to look after our pets and keep safe around dogs. She taught us to stay still and calm and to avoid looking at the dog. Here are some pictures of our session:

Then, the kitchen staff came in to discuss healthy eating options. We learnt how much sugar is actually in some of our favourite food and some healthy options we can enjoy.

To end Wednesday, we got to learn some first aid skills. We learnt all about how to treat bites and stings, put someone in the recovery position and give someone CPR.

Friday – Air Ambulance

On Friday, 4C were visited by a representative of the Air Ambulance charity. They discussed the role of the air ambulances and what the paramedics do. It was very interesting and the children had lots of fantastic questions.

Year 4 Lent Experience

Today, Year 4 had a fantastic time at Church of the Ascension to participate in a few different workshops where they learnt all about Lent.

One of the activities focused on Ash Wednesday. This is a day, where Christians often reflect on things they have done wrong and ask for forgiveness. Children were asked to write or draw something they would like to be forgiven for. This activity ended with children having the option to have a cross of ash drawn on their hands.

Children identified Lent is often a time people ‘give things up’. Children were reminded of Jesus having no food or water for 40 days and nights. They discussed how some Christians choose to fast during this time. On a sheet, children drew or wrote what they would find hard to give up during Lent.

In another activity, they thought about how some Christians think Lent is not only a time to give something up but to try something new. Children discussed how many Christians believe Lent is a time to think about kindness, patience and growth. To reflect on growth and how they can become better, children planted a seed and thought about how they change over time. This was followed up with a discussion about the kind things the children wanted to try and do during the time of Lent.

Finally, they considered how times can sometimes be hard. They thought about how it would have been difficult for Jesus in the Desert with no food or water. Jesus would have been supported and kept focused by the Holy Spirit. Children decorated a pebble with something they would like to ask for support with.

3/4JB Direct Speech

This week in English, we have been reading conversations between characters from our book, ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’.  We have built speech sentences by matching words spoken with a reporting clause. Today, we focussed on inverted commas and other punctuation needed when using direct speech.

4C Instruction Writing

This half term, we have been reading ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’. We have worked hard over the last couple of weeks to write some instructions. Below are some examples, read on if you want to know how to grow your very own dragon.

4C Spy Dance

Over the last couple of weeks, 4C have been doing dance as part of our PE curriculum. Our topic is ‘Spy’. We have been looking at how we can make ourselves look ‘stealthy’ and ‘sneaky’. This week we looked at choreographing some routines using movements in unison (at the same time) and canon (one after the other).

4C Measuring Accurately

This week in maths, we started our new topic : Length and Perimeter. We have been looking at converting between different units and today we had a go at measuring.

We measured items around our classroom using meter sticks and rulers. We had to make a sensible choice about which one we wanted to use. We measured different items in metres(m), centimetres (cm) and millimetres (mm).

Georgia O’Keefe Poppy Art

This week in 3/4JB,  we have had a go at replicating some of Georgia O’Keefe’s artwork using oil pastels.

Remembrance Day in 4C

On Tuesday 11.11.25, we learnt all about Remembrance Day as part of our History topic on WW1. We learnt about why it is important to remember, what the poppy represents and how people mark Remembrance Day each year.

We also got to create some poppies to decorate our classroom.
