Dear Families

Having had to change a few dates for the last couple of weeks of term, I thought it best to resend out key dates:

6^th July – Year 6 production to families at 630pm

7^th July – year 6 production to families at 145 pm

7^th July – reception and KS1 sports day approx 930am

8^th July – transition: children will spend the morning with their new class teacher.

8^th July – reports are sent home with children, in sealed envelopes.

9^th July – year 6 leavers’ fun day

9^th July – parents’ evening 330 – 6pm if you wish to discuss your child’s reports and look at their work.  You will have the opportunity to meet your child’s new class teacher, in September.

10^th July – new reception intake stay and play sessions

10^th July – KS1 visit to Weston

13^th July – KS2 sports day approx 930am

15^th July – mentions certificate assemblies KS1 – 9am and KS2 10 am. Invites will be sent to those receiving certificates nearer the time

17^th July – 2pm Year 6 leavers’ service at church. 2 adults per child are invited to attend

We are hopeful that sports days will go ahead as planned but are weather dependent. Please can we kindly request that all visitors to sports day remain in the designated area.  We very much appreciate your support with supporting staff in ensuring that the event proceeds safely and comfortably, for the children.

Dear Families

Re. Early closure due to extreme heat

I have been closely monitoring the conditions within school and following all statutory guidance from both the DfE and the Local Authority.  Most importantly, I have been monitoring the wellbeing of our children.

We are onsite early, opening the windows and doors, switching the fans and doing all we can to lower the temperatures in our classrooms.  In the morning, children have been able to engage well with their learning, however the afternoons, being significantly hotter, children are struggling, despite all the alterations in place.

I hope that you will consider the following decision reasonable and continue to send your children to school each day so that they do not miss out learning and valuable social time with their friends.  However, we will be allowing parents to collect children at 130pm on Wednesday and Thursday, should they wish to. Children will have their lunch and been registered.  Please go to the main school gate and make your way to the playground and staff will bring the children out to you.  Please email info@chur-ascen.dudley.sch.uk if you intend to collect early so that we can have children ready to collect.

I hope that you understand that this has not been an easy decision to make.  At the moment, these arrangements apply to Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Dear Families

Hot weather plan:

Due to the expected heat wave, I wanted to write to you to let you know that we will be postponing the Key Stage 2 Sports Day.  We will be in touch shortly regarding rescheduling the event.

We will also be taking the following measures:

School uniform –

Children will be sent home with their PE kits, tomorrow so that they can wear them for the remainder of the week, if it is more comfortable for them, while the temperatures are so high, next week. If your child has their PE kit at home currently, they can wear them to school as of Monday 22^nd June and for the duration of the hot weather.

Hydration –

Please ensure that your child has their water bottle in school.  Children will have their water bottes on the tables throughout the day and teachers will ensure regular whole class opportunities to re-hydrate. We have cooled water dispensers in school so the children will be able to refill their bottles, frequently throughout the day.

Sun exposure –

Please ensure that children have long – lasting sunscreen applied prior to coming to school and have a hat with them.  We will be limiting the amount of time that children are exposed to the sun and will shorten breaks accordingly.  We will not be going to the field where there is minimal shade.
