Years 5 and 6 Design Technology

Today, we started our new design and technology unit, which is based on our geography and history work about South America. We sampled some salsa on tortillas, looked at the ingredients and where they originate from.

5/6M Year 5 Writing

Year 5 have been using the text, Macbeth, as inspiration to create atmosphere in their writing. I think you’ll agree that Georgia and Harper-Rose have definitely done that! Well done girls!

Moving On Church Experience – Year 6

This week, Year 6 took part in a church experience at Church of the Ascension all about moving on.  This is a momentous time in the journey of our Ascension children as they are coming to the end of Year 6 and looking forward to the next stage of their school career. Father Adam, Sheila and the team planned and delivered some thought-provoking activities to help the children celebrate successes, reflect on momentous times and consider the excitement and apprehensions that lie ahead. Father Adam closed the session by reminding the children that Church of the Ascension is their church, where they are always welcome and it is always there for them to come home to.

Church Club

This week, we acted out and thought about the story of The Good Samaritan.  We reflected on how we can be a ‘good neighbour’.  Thank you as always to Sheila and all of the church club volunteers for their hard work and commitment.  Sadly, this is Father Chris’ last church club – thank you Father Chris and we will miss you!

Worship Leaders lead worship on Ascension Day

Today, our wonderful worship leaders led a thoughtful act of worship to teach us about the the Ascension of Jesus and how our talents and hobbies, which we see today, are offered back to and blessed by God. As professional as ever, well done Worship Leaders!

Wellbeing Buddies

This half term, our Wellbeing Buddies have chosen to focus on ‘Keeping Active’.  This week, they hosted a whole school assembly to explain why it is so important and how we can keep active in school and at home. As always, we are immensely proud of our children, who take the extra time and commitment to make our school better.

Church Club

This week’s Church Club focussed on Pentecost. We looked at the same word in many different languages. We  tried our best to say them, to remind us of the disciples being able to speak many languages, when the Holy Spirit arrived.

We then made created our own flames to make hats.

Day of the Dead art in 5/6M

We have immersed ourselves into our art in the afternoons this week. We’ve learnt about the Day of the Dead festival and the role of art in this. We have looked at the work of Frida Karloff and explored the colours and symbols by designing our own calavera.  We loved transferring 2D work onto 3D masks.

Church Club

This week’s church club explored the story of ‘The Lost Son’ led by Father Chris. The children explored which characters they felt sorry for and also the idea that God does not treat us all the same, but treats us equally. We made welcome doors – God’s door is always welcoming.

5/6M Forces in Science

We’ve had a busy and fun afternoon investigating the effects of air resistance in Science.  First, we felt the force of air resistance on the playground, then we explored the impact of surface area and finally made paper aeroplanes to determine the impact of a streamlined shape moving through the air.
