Headteacher’s update

What a great couple of weeks we have had!  It has been so lovely to see all of the children, after the holidays and to welcome our lovely new reception classes to our school.  It has been great to see how quickly the children have settled to their new classrooms and teachers and how incredibly brave our reception have been starting school for the first time.

We have particularly enjoyed welcoming Ruth Blaney to school, who will be helping us to get started with our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) project.  We are very excited to be working with OPAL to improve our play offer.  Ruth joined us in school and accurately identified what fantastically polite and respectful children we have here.  We look forward to inviting you into school soon, to hear all about our plans.

As a reminder to those sending in snacks and packed lunches – please ensure that no products that contain nuts, including chocolate and nut based spreads such as Nutella, are brought in to school.  Many thanks for your support with keeping all of our school community safe.

The school photographer will be in school on Tuesday 15th September – further details about timings will be sent separately.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Collective Worship

This week, we have focused on the big question, “what is the Bible”?  Over the course of the school year, we will be getting to know the Bible and what its contents mean to Christians.  We have already learnt all sorts of interesting facts about the Bible, including where it was written and how long it took.  We all recognised that it is a very complex text but we are looking forward to exploring its contents and what we can learn from it.

School Photographer

The photographer will be in school on Tuesday 15th September to take individual school photographs.

If you would like to have a photograph taken of your child/ren with younger siblings who don’t yet attend school, please come to the school office at 8:15am. Please note, due to time restrictions, there may be limited opportunities for these photographs but we will accommodate wherever possible.

Children in Class 4H – please be at school for 8:30am on Tuesday 15th September, with any siblings who also attend our school, so you can have your photograph taken before going swimming. When you arrive at school, please go to the Key Stage 2 door where Mrs Hudson will let you in and go straight to your classroom with your sibling. You will then be taken down to the hall. Siblings can then remain in the school hall and a member of school staff will ensure they are taken to their classrooms.

School Menus

Please see below the menu options for school lunches:

There will also be ‘theme days’ throughout the year when there will be a special menu on a particular day. We will let you know about these on the weekly school newsletter.

Menus will also be available to view in the Parents’ Area on the school website on the ‘Meal Payment and Menu’ page.

All meals now need to be booked through Arbor. Please see the link on how to book Meal Menu choices on the Parent Portal or Parent App – Arbor Help Centre

If you have still not received login details for Arbor, please email the Admin Team on info@chur-ascen.edlt.org.uk and they will resend log in details for you. Please note that we have found emails sent from Arbor often go into the junk/spam/clutter.

For children in Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6) meals do need to be paid for and the cost is currently £2.65 per meal. Meals are also paid for in Arbor by ‘topping-up’ a meal account. If you have any difficulty with this, please contact the school office.

If you think you may be eligible for Free School Meals, please complete an application form:

These are the only items we now require. Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to store any other uniform at this time.

A Fantastic Start to the New School Year for Years 1 and 2!

A Fantastic Start to the New School Year for Years 1 and 2!

We have been delighted to welcome our Year 1 and Year 2 children back to school this week. It has been a wonderful start to the new academic year, and we have been incredibly impressed with how quickly the children have settled into their new classes and routines.

The children have worked hard to follow our school rules by being ready and responsible to learn, using kind and respectful words, and showing kind hands and feet throughout the school day. They have demonstrated excellent behaviour, positive attitudes, and a real enthusiasm for learning.

We would like to thank parents and carers for your continued support in helping your children make such a successful start.

Please take a moment to read our Welcome letter and KS1 poster (below)  if you have not already done so, as they contain important information about the term ahead.

Thank you once again for your support. We are looking forward to a fantastic year together.

The Year 1 and Year 2 Team

‘The Scarecrows’ Wedding in 6M

What a creative start to Year 6! We have read ‘The Scarecrows’ Wedding’, which has inspired some creative writing including our own scarecrow stories, prequels or sequels to the story; artwork creating an alternative character to Reginald Rake and book club all about the author, Julia Donaldson, where we shared some of her books and wrote questions that we would like to ask her.

A fantastic start to gymnastics!

🤸‍♂️ A Fantastic Start to Gymnastics! 🤸‍♀️

We were lucky enough to welcome a British Gymnastics coach to our PE lesson Thursday afternoon. The children had lots of fun learning the ski, pencil and toilet positions before taking part in a carousel of activities involving balancing, travelling and jumping from apparatus.

The children listened brilliantly, tried their best and showed great enthusiasm throughout the session. We are especially excited that our coach will be working with us throughout the whole half term!

A huge thank you to our visiting coach for such a fun and engaging afternoon. We can’t wait for next week’s session! 😊👏
