Year 1 and 2 Bake Bread to Launch New English Unit

As part of our English unit of work on writing instructions, Year 1 and Year 2 worked together to bake a loaf of bread as a class. The children followed each step of the recipe carefully—measuring, mixing, kneading, and watching the dough rise. After the bread was baked in the oven the children got to sample the bread which everyone enjoyed, with many asking for second helpings!

This practical activity helped the children understand how important clear instructions are, and they will now use this shared experience to inspire their own writing.
