This week our Year 1 and 2 children began their new Design and Technology unit, exploring the question “Can I make a puppet to fit my hand?”
The children learned about the purpose of puppets and who uses them, before investigating a range of puppet types, including stick, finger, hand, marionette and rod puppets. They discussed the materials each one is made from and how they are controlled.
To finish, the children enjoyed watching a Punch and Judy show, discovering how popular this form of puppet entertainment was in the past.
This engaging start has sparked lots of curiosity, and the children are already full of ideas for their own puppet creations. We can’t wait to see what they design and make over the coming weeks!
