Head teacher’s Update

Our Year 6 pupils look incredibly smart in their leavers’ hoodies!  It is really lovely to see them wearing them to school, with such pride.

Well done to year 5, who represented our school so well on their visit to Severn Valley Country Park, today. It was great to hear how thoughtful, observant and enthusiastic the children were when looking at natural habitats.

Thank you to those who have responded to the Forest School parent questionnaire.  The responses are very valuable when considering arrangements for next school year.  The questionnaire will remain open over the weekend, should you still wish to contribute Forest School Evaluation- Church of Ascension CE Primary School 2025

Many of our children have enjoyed a visit to the HSA Father’s Day Sale, this afternoon, to make purchases for someone special in their lives.  We continue to be extremely grateful to the HSA for all that they do to raise vital funds to support our school.  This year, we have been treated to lots of fun events, including film nights, discos and our fabulous Family Festival.  We are incredibly grateful for the purchase of a class set of iPads.  These will help to support our Computing Curriculum, as well as allowing pupils to carry out interventions.  In addition to the IPads, on behalf of school, the HSA have purchased:
– Bibles for our reception pupils.
– Large scale update of school reading books.
– New school website.
– £150 per class teacher for them to spend on what their class needs.
– The theatre performance of Treasure Island.
– The reception outdoor pirate ship.
– KS1 playground games.
– Support for transport to the Mayor’s Christmas Concert.
– New walkie talkies for lunchtime and after school use.
-Items to support Year 6 transition and end of year celebrations.

As you can see, all of your contributions have gone to excellent use in supporting the children.  We are very grateful for all of your support at and contributions to the events.

Parent Governor nominations must be received in school no later than 12 noon on Monday 16th June. We currently have two vacancies and would welcome nominations to fulfil these roles as we value the input from our Governors and the vital part they play in our school community.

Collective Worship

This week, we have looked at our school vision:

Do everything in love (1 Corinthians 16:14)

As an inclusive Christian school, Church of the Ascension C.E Primary School aims to create a loving, caring and respectful community, where individuals can flourish spiritually, socially and academically as children of God in a rich learning environment.

We thought about all the different places that we belong – that we belong to our families, our school, our classes, different clubs and groups, our friendship circles and lots more.  But what does it mean to belong as a child of God?  Our children have given lots of thoughtful responses to this question and what this might look like in daily life, for some Christians.

Year 1 and 2 Dudley Gymnastics Finals

Children in Year 1 and 2 took part in the Dudley Gymnastics Finals. Each child performed a floor routine individually as well as a vault individually. All our teams worked really hard together and lots of children came away with medals. Some teams even placed 2nd overall. We are really proud of all of those who took part and really enjoy providing children with these opportunities.

4C’s Take One Picture Project

This half term, as a school we have been looking at The National Gallery Take one picture project. We have looked at the following artwork : A Regatta on the Grand Canal.

Here are some of our drawing challenges that we used to learn more about the painting. We had to : draw as much as we could in five minutes; draw as much as we could in five minutes without looking at our drawing and draw as much as we could in five minutes using our non dominant hand.

As a class, we decided there were lots of things we are excited to explore on the painting. The first thing we have looked at is the clouds. We had the chance to make clouds in three different ways: wax candles, sponges and bubbles. Have a look at our work.
