Head teacher’s update
Good Health week has been fabulous! We have learnt so much about keeping ourselves physically and emotionally healthy. Years 3,4,5 and 6 learnt all about first aid, including CPR. Year 5 and 6 learnt about the importance of getting a good nights sleep. Reception learnt how to keep their hands clean. They also learnt about how to keep themselves safe near the roads. Year 1 and 2 made healthy smoothies! All of our classes have thought about our mental health and wellbeing. This afternoon, all pupils have chosen an activity to have a go at they may not have tried before. It has been a very informative and active week to finish a great half term. “I have particularly enjoyed doing the outdoor activities – we played some really fun team games,” Georgia 5/6M. Even the rain couldn’t dampen spirits, during Good Health Week. Thank you to all of the children for their enthusiasm and commitment, this week. It has been a pleasure to see the children engage so positively and respectfully with so many visitors to school.
Year 4 went to Church, this week, to Experience Lent. They had a very thoughtful afternoon, writing ambitions on prayer rocks and posting prayers in the post box. “We had a lot of fun moving around church, drawing on rocks, asking God for guidance for our future ambitions,” said Annabelle and Paisley, 4C. “We also planted sunflower seeds to bring home – we are looking forward to seeing them grow!”
We had a brilliant time at the discos, last night. Thank you to all of the HSA volunteers who hosted such a great evening.
I can now confirm that school will be closed to children on May 7th as the school will be used as a polling station.
I have had a number of parents enquire about World Book Day on 5th March. In case anyone is planning to have a sort out over half term, I wanted to give you the heads up that we will be doing our Church of Ascension Grand Book Swap, again this year. Children were so enthusiastic about the swap last year. We will also be taking the opportunity to dress up, this year. Children are welcome to come dressed as a character from their favourite book, or wear their own clothes and be ready to talk about their favourite book.
Wishing you all a lovely half term holiday.
Collective Worship
It’s not fair! How often do we say and hear this? The Open the Book team led our act of worship on Monday, this week and with the help of some of our year 4 pupils, acted out The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard Matthew 20:1-16. All of the workers were paid the same, despite the fact that some workers did not start work until much later in the day. The workers who had worked all day complained that it was not fair that they had all been paid the same. The message that we considered was that to Christians, we are all equally loved and valued. Thank you to the Open the Book team and our year 4 volunteers.

Unity Service Letters
As you know, last week, our wonderful Worship Leaders participated in a Unity Service at St James’s Church. The theme was ‘Gratitude’. Some of the children chose to write letters to their local heroes; people who help others in a school, church and local community, who make a difference every day. We thought we’d share their letters with you to pass on to our wonderful local heroes.
To Sheila
Thank you for all you have done for the school and church club. Thank you for volunteering to come on school trips with us and helping those in need. We can’t thank you enough. Not matter what, you always help us and one day, we hope we will be able to thank you. So, thank you for all you do. We all want to thank you for all you do for us, you are a true hero.
From Libby, Elizabeth and Georgia.
Dear Wall Heath Community

From Georgia and Ava

Year 3 First Aid
During good health week, year 3 had the opportunity to learn important skills of first aid. They learnt the recovery position, how to give CPR and also how to treat someone with a sting.
3N Healthy Pizzas
In DT, we made our healthy pizzas, which we designed earlier in the week. We thought carefully how our pizza matched our design brief and used skills of grating, chopping and slicing.
We then explored different pizza boxes and what was included on the packaging. We used this to design our own packaging for our pizzas. Here are some examples of our designs
Year 4 Lent Experience
Today, Year 4 had a fantastic time at Church of the Ascension to participate in a few different workshops where they learnt all about Lent.
One of the activities focused on Ash Wednesday. This is a day, where Christians often reflect on things they have done wrong and ask for forgiveness. Children were asked to write or draw something they would like to be forgiven for. This activity ended with children having the option to have a cross of ash drawn on their hands.
Children identified Lent is often a time people ‘give things up’. Children were reminded of Jesus having no food or water for 40 days and nights. They discussed how some Christians choose to fast during this time. On a sheet, children drew or wrote what they would find hard to give up during Lent.
In another activity, they thought about how some Christians think Lent is not only a time to give something up but to try something new. Children discussed how many Christians believe Lent is a time to think about kindness, patience and growth. To reflect on growth and how they can become better, children planted a seed and thought about how they change over time. This was followed up with a discussion about the kind things the children wanted to try and do during the time of Lent.
Finally, they considered how times can sometimes be hard. They thought about how it would have been difficult for Jesus in the Desert with no food or water. Jesus would have been supported and kept focused by the Holy Spirit. Children decorated a pebble with something they would like to ask for support with.
Good Health Week in 4C!

This week in 4C, we have been busy learning about all the ways to look after ourselves and keep us safe. Here is a quick run through all the exciting things we have been doing:
Monday – Making healthy pizzas and Taekwondo.
On Monday, we got to use our planning form the previous week to create our very own healthy pizzas. We got to eat them on the afternoon so that we could complete our evaluations, they smelt and tasted delicious!
Monday afternoon, we were lucky to get a visit from Golden Martial Arts. We got to have some fun learning what kind of activities you do when learning Taekwondo. It got us moving lots and our heart rates racing.
Tuesday – RNLI, Reflexions and Fire Safety
To start our day, we were visited by Caroline a volunteer for the RNLI charity. She spoke to us about keeping safe around water and what we need to do in an emergency situation.
Next, Hayley from Reflexions came to speak to us about our feelings and emotions. We talked about stress and anxiety and things we can do to help us feel better.
To end the busy day, the Fire Brigade came in to talk to us about fire safety, water safety and road safety. Below you can see us learning about Stop, Drop and Roll!
Wednesday – Blue Cross, Sugar Swap and First Aid
On Wednesday, we were visited by Geraldine, from the blue cross. She did a fantastic job of teaching us how to look after our pets and keep safe around dogs. She taught us to stay still and calm and to avoid looking at the dog. Here are some pictures of our session:
Then, the kitchen staff came in to discuss healthy eating options. We learnt how much sugar is actually in some of our favourite food and some healthy options we can enjoy.
To end Wednesday, we got to learn some first aid skills. We learnt all about how to treat bites and stings, put someone in the recovery position and give someone CPR.
Friday – Air Ambulance
On Friday, 4C were visited by a representative of the Air Ambulance charity. They discussed the role of the air ambulances and what the paramedics do. It was very interesting and the children had lots of fantastic questions.
Good Health Week in Year 1 and 2.
This week, children in Year 1 and Year 2 have taken part in a range of exciting activities as part of Good Health Week, exploring how to look after both their bodies and minds.
Recognising and Responding to Emotions
The children enjoyed a workshop focused on understanding different emotions. They learned how to recognise feelings in themselves and others and practised simple strategies to help them manage big emotions in a positive and healthy way.
Healthy Eating: Fruit Preparation & Smoothie Making
A highlight of the week was our hands‑on healthy eating session. The children practised safely slicing fruit and then used their ingredients to create delicious, nutritious fruit smoothies. This practical activity supported their fine motor skills and helped them understand the importance of a balanced diet.
Hand Washing Workshop with the School Nurse
We were delighted to welcome the school nurse for a special workshop on effective hand hygiene. The children learned why hand washing is so important and practised the correct technique to help keep themselves and others healthy.
Safer Internet Day 2026: Using Voice Assistants Safely
As part of Safer Internet Day 2026, Year 1 and Year 2 also discussed how to use voice assistants safely. The children talked about what these devices can do, when they should ask an adult for help, and how to make safe and responsible choices when using technology.
It has been a fantastic week full of learning, activity, and fun. We are so proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children have been, and we hope they have enjoyed developing healthy habits that will support their wellbeing all year round.

DPA Harmony 2026
On Thursday afternoon, the whole school took part in DPA’s annual Harmony event for Children’s Mental Health Week. We joined with over 300 schools across the West Midlands to sing and promote wellbeing. This involved singing the ‘Connecting Together’ song along with sign language, as well as some popular classics. We also learnt about the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’.
