Head teacher’s message

Dear family,

Welcome all to our new website! Our new website launched just before the holidays and we are very pleased with how it is coming along. We hope that it will become a useful point of reference for parents and visitors. We are still in the process of adding all of the useful information, so please bear with us while we continue to work on it. Please do feel free to explore and check back regularly to see the updates. Newsletters will now be produced on the website and a link will be sent by text each Friday for you to access them.

It has been a positive start to the new half term.  We have had a very productive and busy week, as you will be able to see from our class pages.  This morning in praise assembly, we celebrated a lot of writing from across the school.  There were also a lot of medals, certificates and badges to celebrate from out of school activities.

Mrs Mason

Collective Worship week beginning 24.2.25

This week, we were delighted to have our assembly led by Father Chris Smith.  As it is the first assembly of the half term, it was a Core Value focus. This half term, we will be focusing on our Core Value of Forgiveness.  Father Chris told us the story of Jacob and Esau, and how Esau found it in his heart to forgive his brother Jacob.

School Eucharist

Father Adam will be leading our School Eucharist at 9:00am on Monday 3rd March. Members of our school community who wish to take communion are very welcome to join us.

World Book Day 2025

To mark World Book Day on Thursday, March 6th this year, we aim to celebrate reading, which is always at the forefront of our curriculum, with an exciting range of events designed to inspire our students to read for pleasure. Our goal is to spark a genuine love for reading by encouraging every child to discover new titles and explore different genres.

Throughout the day, each class will engage in various reading-related activities, offering plenty of opportunities for students to enjoy stories in fresh and fun ways.

As always, there is no expectation to spend money! We will be hosting a Book Swap Station where children can bring in one book they no longer need and exchange it for one they have never read before. To take part, all we ask is that the book your child brings is in good condition and free from any markings or writing. This is a fantastic chance for students to refresh their bookshelf and enjoy a new adventure in reading!

For more details, be sure to check out our website and Facebook posts for updates on our World Book Day events. Thank you for your continued support as we celebrate the magic of reading together.

Science Week 10th March

Dear Parents,

Reception will be celebrating British Science Week (week beginning 10th March).  We will complete our dinosaur topic with a number of science – based activities.  To make this a fun week we would like to ask the children to bring in a scientist outfit to wear when we complete our experiments.  This could be something as simple as an old white shirt with sleeves rolled up and a pair of safety goggles.  Please send this in on Monday 10th March in a carrier bag with your child’s name on.  Historically, our science week has been a huge success and the children really engage in the activities and dressing up just adds another element of fun.  If you would like to find out more about British Science Week use the web link below where you can download activities to do at home to should you wish to.

An Egg-citing Discovery!

Monday 24th February 2025

Reception children were shocked to find a very large egg in their sandpit this afternoon. We had lots of suggestions about where it could have come from and what it might be…we’ll keep you posted!

Tuesday 25th February 2025

The children were very excited to check the egg this morning and even more pleased to see that it had hatched!

Inside was a little pterodactyl! Some children weren’t quite sure whether it was real or not, especially when Mrs York pretended that it was wriggling when she tried to pick it up.

Lots of children knew that it couldn’t be real as dinosaurs are extinct. We had some lovely conversations about what that word means and lots of information about the children’s favourite dinosaur.

What a fantastic start to our new topic! The children are all really keen to try some exciting dinosaur activities this week.

999 Emergency!

Today the firefighters came to visit Reception in their BIG RED TRUCK!

They showed us their special uniform and all the tools on the fire engine. The children were allowed to climb inside the cab to have a closer look.

We were all very excited to listen to the sirens and have a go at squirting the hose.

What a treat, thank you so much Brierley Hill Fire Service!

The Great Fire of London

History

‘The Great Fire of London!’ – Our new topic for this half term

The children in Year 1 and 2 have started to explore timber houses and structures that were in London in 1666. As the weeks go on, the children will learn more about the catastrophic event that erupted on the 2nd of September 1666, in a small bakery on Pudding Lane, situated near London Bridge. They will explore the suitability of materials and their resistance to fire and make a product that has a door hinge incorporated within it. They will evaluate the suitability of these and we hope to invite the fire service in to demonstrate and discuss the risk of, and the speed that fire can spread across buildings!

6P Gymnastics

We have just started a new topic in gymnastics, look at our amazing partner balances.
