Head teacher’s update

Many thanks to the HSA for all of their hard work in hosting the Mothers’ Day Sale, today.  The children have enjoyed the opportunity to make purchases for someone special.

Huge well done to our Cross Country team who competed against other Dudley Schools at Summerhill, this week.  We were very proud of how well the children represented the school.

Good luck to our Football Team who play against Maidensbridge, this evening.

I have met with Stephanie Cox of AIP to discuss the issues and concerns raised by both pupils and families.  Stephanie is committed to addressing the issues raised.  I have been present in the dinner hall every day for the past couple of weeks and have spoken to children about the food that they have enjoyed and the food that they do not like.  The last service for dinners has consistently been 12:30, which should hopefully allow sufficient time for children to eat. I will continue to monitor this closely.  There has been fresh bread each day and the salad bar has been replenished throughout service.  AIP have committed to improving the menu, which will be available after Easter and assured me that it will be less repetitive and there will be more choices that children will recognise and enjoy. We have also planned in some theme days for the Summer Term, as requested by the School Council.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend – enjoy the sunshine!

Collective worship 24.3.25

Thank you to Father Chris, who led our assembly, this week.  We always enjoy singing to the accompaniment of Father Chris on the electric guitar!  Our theme this week is Faithfulness and Father Chris reminded us of the importance of faithfulness in friendships. He also shared examples from the Bible for us to consider.

Minority Instrument Project

Please see this amazing opportunity from Dudley Performing Arts:-

Amazing Minority Instrument Project – 9 free instrumental lessons!

Dear Parent/Carer,

Starting after Easter 2025 we have an amazing opportunity for any KS 2 pupil to learn what are known as minority instruments. These are instruments usually found in an orchestra that are dwindling in number – cello, double bass, oboe, bassoon, euphonium and tuba.

Over the next 9 weeks we will run beginner group lessons on a Monday or Tuesday at our music base at Cable Plaza on the Waterfront near Merry Hill. Each lesson will last for 25 minutes. The children will all be beginner students and learn how to play a musical instrument in a fun, relaxed group environment. All the instruments will be provided, and they will be able to bring their instrument home every week to allow them to practice and try new things!

Sessions will take place on the days and times below, starting from the week beginning 28th April. Spaces will be limited and allocated on a first come first served basis. To take up this fantastic offer please click on this link and complete the necessary information.

Remembrance Plaque

We were very pleased to be visited by Mr Glattback from Summerhill School who presented us with a blue plaque from the Wall Heath and Kingswinford War Memorial Group. We are very proud to display the plaque in remembrance of a former pupil of our school who gave his life for his country. You can see it displayed by the main entrance.

Diary Writing – Year 1 and 2

The King’s Pants and The Great Fire of London

We have focused on ‘The King’s Pants’ and ‘The Baker’s Boy and the Great Fire of London’ texts the past couple of weeks.

When Will Farriner wakes to the sound of crackling flames and the smell of smoke, he knows something is terribly wrong! As his family escape the flames engulfing their bakery, Will realises he must stop the fire spreading. But what can be done before all of London goes up in smoke?
