Head teacher’s update Thank goodness for a week in the sunshine! It has been another busy and productive week. Our year 5 and 6 pupils carried out a geography field trip to the local area to consider the impact future developments might have on the village and the school. I had the pleasure of walking with 5/6M and was very impressed by the children’s responses and critical thinking.
Attendance this week has been really positive, with one day this week being very nearly 100%! We talk about the benefits of consistent attendance in assembly each week.
Our new phonics scheme, ELS, is well underway and the children are responding very well to the new lessons. Thank you for all of your support with reading at home.
Congratulations to all of the children who have successfully achieved one of our pupil voice and representative positions. All of our House Captains, School Council Reps, Wellbeing Buddies and Worship Committee are in position and raring to go to help our school community. Thank you to all of those involved.
Please could we ask for your continuing support regarding water and drinks bottles. We are very grateful for the support with the size of the bottles that children are bringing. It really does make a difference to storage in the classrooms and there is a noticeable reduction in spillages. Plastic bottles are preferable, please as metal ones are hard and heavy and can cause incidents.
Collective Worship This week’s focus has been on resilience, which is both part of our school vision and one of our new Curriculum Drivers. We have reflected on what resilience means and there were some excellent suggestions from the children. In the end, we decided that resilience means the ability to bounce back. We thought about how we have already shown resilience this year by moving to new year groups, lots of new learning and of course, the literal bouncing, on the inflatable assault course! Children found it very amusing that I had needed help from Miss Cottam to complete the course. We then considered how we all need help at times, and that it is ok to ask for support.
We finished our assembly with the following:
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Getting ready for colder months This week, the children explored how animals get ready for the colder months, how they spend time gathering food and shelter building. The children used natural materials and clay to create their own woodland creatures, and really got stuck in with lots of enthusiasm and creativity.
We shared the story of Jack and His Magical Leaves and played our favourite game — Sleeping Hedgehog — which had everyone laughing as they tried to stay still and quiet!
The children loved searching for insects, big and small, and were full of excitement with every new discovery.
To finish off the session, we enjoyed toasted pancakes with strawberries, blueberries and a drizzle of chocolate sauce — the perfect treat after a busy day outdoors.
Geography Field Trip Local Area Field Study
This week the Children from Years 5&6 went on a field trip to study the area known locally as The Triangle. We were looking at the impact of humans in our local area as this area is potentially going to be developed for housing. The children were considering all aspects of the proposed development and how this might impact the village of Wall Heath and surrounding communities.
Year 1 and 2 Science Autumn Walk This week, our Year 1 and Year 2 children went on a lovely autumn walk to explore the changing season. The children collected a variety of natural objects such as colourful leaves, conkers, acorns, and twigs. They used their senses to observe the sights, sounds, and smells of autumn and talked about what they discovered. It was a fantastic way to learn about nature, practise sorting and describing objects, and enjoy the fresh air together!
