Head teacher’s update
I am very sorry to report that I have had to re-schedule the inflatable assault course again, to later next week. With strong winds predicted for the beginning of the week, we felt that it was safest to delay. I have never known the weather to be so unsettled at the beginning of the school year and it is typical that this unpredictable weather coincides with when we are trying to organise an outdoor event! Many thanks for your support and patience with this.
AIP, our school food provider, will be on the main playground from 3pm on Tuesday 16th September. They are looking forward to meeting our families and answering any questions that you may have about our school lunches. I believe that they may also be bringing some sweet treats.
The children have done some fantastic responses to our focus book, The Dot. I am so impressed by how inspired and creative the children have been. We shared some examples of poetry in Praise Assembly, this morning.
Many thanks to all of you who attended our phonics and early reading evening, this week. We have never had such a positive turn out before. For those who did attend, please could you take a couple of minutes to complete our feedback form? https://forms.office.com/e/ZfteS15WYJ
A quick reminder that our HSA meeting will take place on Monday 15th September, at school, at 630pm. I look forward to seeing many of you, then.
Collective Worship
Our theme for Collective Worship, this week is our core value of Respect. Our children speak very confidently about what respect is and how we show respect for each other and our school. This week, we thought about respect for imperfections, by looking at the Japanese art of repairing pottery – kintsugi. We thought about how instead of discarding the pottery, kintsugi respects the history and the beauty of the pottery. Broken pottery is pasted back together to make something stronger and even more beautiful. We reflected on how we can also reflect and celebrate imperfections. We also thought about how for Christians, their faith can help to make them stronger.

School Photographer
The photographer will be in school on Tuesday 16th September to take individual and sibling photographs.
Class 4C – as children will be going swimming at 9am, if possible, can they arrive at school at 8:30am to have their photograph taken before they go. There will be an opportunity for them to have a photograph when they return from swimming if they are unable to make it into school for 8:30am. Any children in 4C who have a sibling in school, can they also come in for their sibling photograph.
Class 1C – can children please come to school dressed in their school uniform and bring their Forest School clothes with them to change into after their photograph has been taken.
If children have younger siblings at nursery/pre-school and they would like a photograph taken with them, please come to the hall at 8:30 and we will fit you in when we can.
Thank you for your support.
Parking Around School
Could we please remind parents to be considerate when parking around school at drop off and pick up times. Please also be careful not to go onto pavements, the footpath is very narrow around the school gates on New Street and we need to ensure all our children are kept safe when arriving at and leaving school.
We appreciate your support.

Birds that share the forest with us
1C had a wonderful first day back at Forest School today, and it felt like autumn had arrived. The focus was on birds that share the forest with us and how we can help them as the days get colder.
The children made pine cone bird feeders to hang in the trees and even had a go at building their own nests – carefully thinking about what birds might need to stay warm and safe.
Fiona told the story of Magpie and the Bird Nest, which brought lots of curious questions and thoughtful ideas. During our reflection time we imagined what kind of bird we would like to be. We had everything from colourful parrots to gentle robins and even eagles.
A lovely start to the Forest School journey Church of the Ascension Primary School Wall Heath .
Year 1 and 2 – Launch of ‘The Dot’
Maths:
To kick off our Aspire for Higher curriculum, we read The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds—a story that encourages self-belief, creativity, and taking that all-important first step. After reading, we reflected on the story’s message and thought about something we can’t do yet, but would like to achieve by the end of Year 1 and Year 2.
Year 1:
Year 1 went on an exciting circle hunt around the classroom and the school grounds. The children explored their environment carefully, spotting and identifying objects with circular shapes. They discovered circles in everyday items such as clocks, wheels, plates, and signs.
Year 2:
As part of our activity, we explored how even a simple dot can grow into something amazing. We each created our own artwork, starting with a painted dot on one side of a folded paper. When we folded the paper, it created a symmetrical print on the other side—transforming a single dot into a unique piece of art!
English:
Year 1:
Year 1 enjoyed listening to the story The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. After hearing the beginning of the story, the children each drew their own dot and then used their imagination to predict what might happen next. This activity encouraged creativity, storytelling, and thinking about how characters might change and grow.
Year 2:
Year 2 read the story The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. After sharing the book together, the children worked in groups to sequence the events using picture cards. This helped them to recall key parts of the story, discuss what happened in order, and build their understanding of how stories are structured.
To celebrate and summarise our learning, we took part in our very own Aspire for Higher activity. The children thoroughly enjoyed challenging themselves on an inflatable assault course set up on the school field. This was a fantastic opportunity to build teamwork, resilience, and confidence, while having lots of fun together.
We look forward to what we are going to achieve this academic year!
