Head teacher’s update

It has been another great week in school.  I am so impressed by our children braving the cold and having such a great time, in Forest School. Thank you to our gardening group who are doing such a good job on our school site.

Thank you for the responses to the parent questionnaire, regarding the new start of the day arrangements.  The responses have been predominantly positive and we are grateful for the contributions and suggestions.

We are very much looking forward to our Christmas Family Event, next Friday.  There is a lot to join in with and we look forward to seeing those of you who are able to join us.  Thank you to the HSA for all of your hard work in organising what promises to be great evening.  For safety reasons, please ensure that your children remain with you, under your supervision, while attending the event.

Well done to the children that participated in the Sports Hall Athletics.  You represented the school brilliantly and came 3rd out of 12 schools participating.  I am very proud of your efforts and thank you for being such positive ambassadors for the school.

Collective Worship

Father Chris led our termly Eucharist, this week.  It was a lovely service and it was great to welcome members of the church community, to take communion with us.  Father Chris explained all of the elements of the service.  Children listened very carefully and responded thoughtfully.  Thank you to our Worship Leaders who led us in prayers and contributed so positively with the service.

Santa’s Grotto at the Christmas Fayre

SANTA’S GROTTO AT THE CHRISTMAS FAYRE
FRIDAY 5TH DECEMBER 5-7PM

We hope you will be joining us for our Christmas Fayre this year. If your child/ren would like to visit Santa, tickets will need to be pre-booked. Please see the information below which explains how to book and what to expect.
Tickets are £5 per child and can be booked by going to…

https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/church-of-the-ascension-primary-school-hsa

There you will be able to select which time slot you would like starting from 5pm, every 10 minutes until 6.50pm.
Each time slot has 15 tickets available. Only children require tickets. The time you select is the time you should be at the Grotto entrance by the Key Stage 1 library.

In groups of up to 15 children, they will be taken in to meet our cheery elves and make reindeer food before going to meet Santa and Mrs Claus. Mrs Claus will then tell them a festive story and they will be given their small gifts.

Please note if you choose the 5pm slot then we advise that you arrive slightly earlier than the fayre start time and let them know on the entrance you are here so we can start everything on time.

We are so excited to bring back our grotto and hope the children will enjoy it too!

1/2B Final Forest School!

What a brilliant final Forest School session for class 1/2B.

Despite the cold, chilly weather, the children were full of energy and excitement, ready to explore and enjoy a fire-themed session with a sprinkle of Christmas magic.

We started with a festive game of “Hunt the Elf on a Branch”, before giving the children the chance to light a fire themselves. They also enjoyed making their own Christmas deorations, adding a lovely creative touch to the morning.

The favourites were in full swing – the mud kitchen, mud-pit digging, and den building kept everyone busy and happy. We finished the session by toasting marshmallows for s’mores and warming up with a hot chocolate.

5CS Dance

5CS have been creating, practising and performing 1970’s disco dances.
We enjoyed learning moves from this era and also free styling!

3D modelling in computing

In 5CS, we have been using a 2Design and Make tool to design a building thinking carefully about how to use the repeating pattern fill tool to create brick and tile effects. We explored our design in 3D and also as a net.

Georgia O’Keefe Poppy Art

This week in 3/4JB,  we have had a go at replicating some of Georgia O’Keefe’s artwork using oil pastels.

Digital Art

In Year 6, we have been completing a unit of work on digital photography. We were able to take advantage of some excellent lighting earlier in the week to produce some interesting pictures.

St Mary’s Church Christmas Tree Festival

Well done to our worship leaders for making some beautiful tree decorations for our school tree at St Mary’s Church Christmas Tree Festival. Many thanks as always to Mrs Haywood for her time and creativity and to Mrs Nichols for organising us. Take a look at our tree and many others from local organisations on 29th November 10am – 3pm and 30th November 11:30 – 3pm.

Garlic growing in 5/6M!

After a morning in forest school, some members of 5/6M continued their outdoor and wellbeing activities by planting some garlic to harvest later next year. Well done all and thank you, Mrs Young.

1C and 2S Art

Within our unit of art work this half term we have been considering ‘What colours and patterns can be found in nature?’ The children started off by looking closely at the autumnal objects found and brought into school and arranging them against their chosen background. Next, the children had a go at sketching their choice of objects,  including as much detail as possible. The children then created templates and used these to cut out their autumn objects from their choice of fabrics. Finally the children arranged and fixed their objects on a hessian background as well as adding a range of embellishments to reflect the patterns found in nature.
