Head teacher’s update

A very well done to our year 6 pupils, who despite the wind and rain, have been excellent ambassadors for our school at their residential visit to PGL.  The children have displayed incredible resilience, being away from home for 4 nights and taking care in lots of exciting and adventurous activities.  Staff have told me what an absolute pleasure you have been to spend the week with – your manners have been impeccable and you have been great fun.  Thank you and very well done, year 6!

We have had lots of visitors to school, this week.  Thank you to the Open the Book team and pupil volunteers who acted out the story of Zacchaeus so convincingly.  Thank you also to Father Adam for leading our assembly, on Thursday.

I hope that you all have a lovely half term holiday.  I hope that as many children as possible will participate in our House Challenge to bring in pine cones and conkers for our OPAL project!

We look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Monday 2nd November.  We are very much looking forward to meeting Evie Pickerill on Tuesday 3rd of November – don’t forget to wear pyjamas or comfies. We have lots of sensible questions that we are looking to asking.

Collective Worship

Thank you very much to our Open the Book team who led our Collective Worship, this week.  They acted out the story of Jesus choosing to have dinner with Zacchaeus, despite him not being popular due to cheating people on their taxes.  We learnt about the example that Jesus set of seeking out the people who weren’t included. We learnt about the value of forgiveness and the importance of moving on.

Father Adam visited us in school, on Thursday.  We heard the story that Jesus told of the Good Samaritan.  We considered who behaved as a good neighbour and what qualities they had displayed.  Father Adam asked us to consider the ways in which we can be good neighbours. The children gave some excellent examples, such as being generous, not being boastful and supporting someone if they are upset.

House challenge – Bonkers Conkers!

Wall Heath in Bloom – Gold Award

We were delighted to hear that Wall Heath in Bloom have achieved the Britain in Bloom Gold award in the urban community category.  We are incredibly grateful to Wall Heath in Bloom for all that they have done for our school and whole community.  It has also been great to work with members of Wall Heath in Bloom on community projects – don’t forget that we are still collecting knitted or crocheted poppies for the Remembrance Day events.

Rugby Festival

Last Friday, a group of our Year 6 children attended a rugby festival at DK Rugby Club and enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of sport, teamwork and fun.

The festival was a non-competitive event, giving children the opportunity to develop their rugby skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. Throughout the afternoon, the pupils took part in a variety of activities and matches, demonstrating excellent enthusiasm, determination and sportsmanship.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and came away having learnt some valuable new tips and techniques from the coaches and other participants. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they put these new skills into practice.

We are incredibly proud of the way all of the children represented our school. Their positive attitudes, teamwork and behaviour were exemplary throughout the event.

Well done to everyone who took part! 🏉👏
