Head teacher’s update
We have had a really lovely week of celebrations, at Church of the Ascension. On Wednesday, we welcomed our reception children to school and church community. Thank you to Father Jonathan for leading our service reflecting on the importance of light in the world and how our children represent the light and hope of the future. Thank you also to Max and Elizabeth, 2 of our year 6 pupils, who gave very thoughtful and reflective speeches about their experiences as pupils of our school. Our reception children sang confidently and we all thoroughly enjoyed your service.
It was lovely to celebrate so many successes in our weekly Praise Assembly, this morning. It was great to see a wide variety of subject achievements, as well as all of the brilliant activities that our children are involved in outside of school.
Well done to 10 of our year 6 pupils who participated in the T1 Rugby Tournament at DK Rugby Club, this afternoon. The event was run by the sports leaders at Ellowes High School and they provided a great afternoon of activities and competitions. Thank you to Mrs Clarke for organising. Mrs Clarke said that our children were a pleasure to spend the afternoon with and were excellent ambassadors for our school. We are looking forward to the team passing on the knowledge and skills that they learnt today, to the rest of the year group.

📚 Year 1 and 2 Book Club 📚
Every Friday in Year 1 and 2, we swap our usual story time for something a little different… Book Club!
Book Club gives children the opportunity to bring in their favourite books from home and share them with their classmates. They tell us why they enjoy the book, introduce the characters and recommend it to others. It is always wonderful to see the excitement and enthusiasm as children talk about stories they love and inspire their friends to try something new.
This week, we had a fantastic variety of books shared, including some brilliant comics and an annual packed with interesting facts and activities. One of the books even included a recipe at the back! The children were so excited by it that they asked if we could share it with everyone so they could have a go at making it at home.
We hope you enjoy reading together and, if you fancy it, having a go at making the recipe over the weekend too!
Thank you to everyone who has already brought in a book to share. If your child has a favourite story, comic, fact book or annual that they would like to recommend to their friends, please encourage them to bring it along to our Friday Book Club. It is a wonderful way to develop a love of reading, build confidence and discover new books to enjoy.
📖 Happy reading and have a wonderful weekend!
(Please see the photos below for this week’s book and recipe.) 😊

Reception Welcome Service
On Wednesday, we spent a lovely afternoon at the church with our special grown ups. It was a very special service to welcome all our new children and their families into our school and church community. Father Jonathan spoke about the children being the light of the future and everyone lit a candle. Mrs Mason was pleased to give every child a beautiful Bible to take home and the children hung a self-portrait on a special tree to remind the church congregation to hold them in their thoughts and prayers throughout the coming months. The children treated us all to some lovely singing. They even got to ring the church bell to signify the start of their time at Church of the Ascension.
