Head teacher’s update

We are delighted to be continuing our collaborative work with Wall Heath in Bloom.  There are a couple of exciting projects that we would love to get involved with, as a school.  Children and families have been invited to contribute to the Remembrance Day service by creating either crocheted or knitted red poppies for a central display in the church grounds. If you would like to contribute any poppies, we are happy to accept the donations at school.  We will also be inviting children to design a Christmas Card competition. I have shared this with children today in assembly, and look forward to seeing their competition entries.

Music lessons with Dudley Performing Arts have resumed for those children learning to play an instrument, in school.  If you would like your child to have lessons with Dudley Performing Arts, please follow this link – Music lessons in school | Dudley Council

Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed their opportunity to visit church this week for the Experience Harvest event.  Children listened carefully and interacted thoughtfully in all of the activities.  I look forward to seeing how well the seeds of radishes, carrots and lettuces grow.

Lunchtimes have been full of new activities, this week, thanks to our Sports Ambassadors.  They have been working closely with ACE coaching to lead some really great games and activities.  It has been lovely to see the children playing so creatively, although I have discovered that I need to work on my penalty taking skills.

Thank you to all of those at church who supported and hosted us.  Thank you also to our amazing Worship Committee who have worked closely with Mrs Moore and Mrs Austin to lead very thought provoking and interactive services for our key stage 1 and 2 children.  I thoroughly enjoyed the services and I know that the children did too.

Many thanks for all of the generous Harvest donations that we have received for the Foodbank. We will ensure it’s safe delivery to The Black Country Foodbank next week.

We are looking forward to  our first school discos of the year, which will be taking place on Thursday 8th October.

Collective Worship

This week, we started thinking about the people of God.  We explored the story of Noah and the ark.  We considered what qualities Noah held that meant that God considered him trustworthy which such a big mission.  God made Noah a promise and Noah trusted in God – we thought about what that means about the relationship that God had with Noah.  At the end of the story, there was a rainbow that signified that the storm had passed.  We all agreed that we love rainbows and how they represent hope and brighter things.  The children made some very thoughtful contributions about the importance of promises and why they are sometimes quite difficult to keep.

Flu Vaccinations

Flu vaccinations will take place in school on Wednesday 7th October for all pupils. E-consent forms must be completed, even if you do not wish to give consent. These have been sent out directly from the NHS either as a text or email.

Thank you.

Art in 6M

In Art, we are investigating what illustrations add to text.  This week, we have looking at the work of Quentin Blake.

Wow, what a super start!

Our new children have settled into their daily routines and are having lots of fun exploring their reception environment.  They have learned lots of number rhymes, stories and phonemes and are impressing their new teachers with their reading and spelling.  Here’s a snapshot of some of the learning this week.

Harvest Celebration and Food Bank Donations

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our parents and carers for your generous donations to the local food bank as part of our Harvest celebrations. Your kindness and support will help families in our community and reminds us all of the importance of helping others.

This morning, we enjoyed a lovely Harvest celebration at church. This was also the first time we have taken our KS1 children to church this academic year, and we were incredibly proud of them all. They were sensible, respectful and followed instructions exceptionally well throughout the morning, representing our school beautifully.

We were also delighted to see our Worship Leaders do such a wonderful job leading the service and helping everyone take part in the celebrations. Their confidence and enthusiasm made the occasion extra special.

During our time together, the children learned about the importance of caring for God’s creation. We discussed how we can all play our part by looking after our world, including not littering and reducing food waste. These simple actions help us to show respect and gratitude for the wonderful world God has given us.

Father Jonathan also shared a simple but meaningful reminder with the children. Before eating, he encouraged everyone to pause and say the short prayer, “Thank you God,” as a way of showing gratitude for the food we have and the people who help provide it.

It has been a truly special morning of reflection, celebration and thankfulness. Thank you once again for your generous Harvest donations and for supporting our school community. We are so proud of all the children and the wonderful attitudes they demonstrated throughout the morning.

“Thank you God.” 🍂🌾🙏

Year 3 Experience Harvest

On Thursday afternoon, our Year 3 children had the opportunity to visit Church for their ‘Experience Harvest’ event. During the afternoon, the children learnt about God’s wonderful world and were able to make a clay pot, plant a seed and discover more about the uses of wool. The children tried different breads that might be produced and eaten at harvest time.

Here are some of the children’s reflections upon their visit to Church.

“I like that I got to eat some bread and that I got a lovely harvest experience.”

“I loved going to Church to experience new things.”

“I enjoyed planting the seed so I can share the food with others.”

“I loved being able to spend time with my friends and having fun and creating and learning new things at Church.”

“I enjoyed tasting the bread because I thought about it and I think it is sad, but we are lucky that we have all of this food.”

Thank you to the team at Church of the Ascension for hosting such a lovely Harvest Experience event for Year 3.
