Head teacher’s update

Mrs Peters and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Summerhill with the girls’ football team.  The team have been participating in a tournament and this week was round 2.  Both games played were very exciting and there was some great skill demonstrated. The end results were a loss and a win meaning that we are through to the finals!  The girls finished the afternoon with an impressive 8 goals! Well done to our girls’ football team.,

Our school council representatives have been helping me to establish the pupils’ views on behaviour in our school.  I am very grateful to the representatives and how sensibly and thoughtfully they have carried out this task. A particular thank you to the year 6 representatives who have supported our younger children to express their views.

This week I met with Wall Heath in Bloom.  Their plans for the village are very exciting and we are happy to be getting involved. Our Eco Committee will be getting actively involved in both school and the local area.

Huge thanks to our HSA who have held our annual sale for Mother’s Day, this afternoon.

Collective Worship

One of our favourite visitors to Church of the Ascension, Lindsey Brown, led our assembly, on Monday.  Her clever and skilful use of art, helped us to understand the value of forgiveness.  Lindsey told us the story of creation and temptation.  She then reminded us of the significance of Easter,  and how for Christians it is a time of forgiveness, new beginnings and moving forwards.  Lindsey left us with a wonderful painting to display and remind us of how Christians believe that Jesus came to mend relationships.  Thank you for a thought provoking assembly, Lindsey.

School Calendars

We do still have a small stock of our 2026 school calendar which we are now selling at just £1 each! If you would like to buy one so you can have a memento of your child’s self-portrait, please ask at the school office!

H.S.A Family Festival

H.S.A will be holding their ‘Family Festival’ again on Friday 15th May straight after school until 7pm.

In preparation for this they are looking for anyone who might be a little bit handy and have some time on their hands who could make some items for the games at the fair. If this sounds like something you could help with, please either give your contact details to a member of the H.S.A or at the school office.

Wall Heath Village People Easter Trail

On Saturday 4th April, Wall Heath Village People will be holding an Easter Trail that will take place all over the village and include a mini farm at the Horse & Jockey.

They would love for our children to be involved by creating Easter Eggs that can be dotted around the village, fixed to railings etc. as part of the trail. The eggs need to be LARGE (the bigger the better!) and made from cardboard, paper mache or anything that will be sturdy (not just paper) They can be decorated however you would like, the theme for the Easter Trail is Fairy Tales. Please remember to put your name on your egg. We are happy to collect any eggs that you have created in school and deliver them for you.

Design and Technology in 6P

In 6P this week, we have been making plans and trying out prototypes for marble runs.

After exploring some commercially produced designs and testing some materials, we are almost ready to begin production on our own. Check back soon to see the finished products.

4C exploring ‘Stone Age Boy’ through drama.

On Wednesday in 4C, we had an exciting English lesson where we got in to groups to recreate different parts of ‘Stone Age Boy’ using freeze frames. We are preparing to write a narrative and this helped us to explore character’s feelings and responses to the different things that could occur in our stories. Here are some of our fabulous freeze frames:

Year 1 & 2 Enjoy NFU Science Week Live Lesson

Our Year 1 and Year 2 children took part in the NFU Science Farm LIVE: The BIG Farming QUESTion as part of British Science Week 2026. The session explored exciting farming questions such as how farmers care for animals and the wildlife on their farms, all linked to this year’s theme of curiosity.

The live lesson helped bring real‑world science to life, inspiring pupils’ enthusiasm for STEM learning through engaging, curriculum‑aligned activities.

The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part and showed wonderful curiosity throughout the session.

Dinosaur Science Week was totally ROARSOME!!!

This week Reception have celebrated British Science Week with a range of STEM learning activities.

We all looked so smart in our scientist outfits.

We measured dinosaur food.

We predicted if things would float or sink and made a boat to help a baby dinosaur float.

We tested different materials to see if they were waterproof to keep our baby dinos dry.

We used paper to make a bridge over a swamp, that was strong enough to support the weight of a stegasaurus.

On Wednesday afternoon, we learned about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.  We tricked our grown ups by taking home a pretend dino poop!  We sorted dinosaurs into groups  – those that walked on 2 legs and those that walked on 4 legs.

On Thursday we enjoyed a ‘sleepover at the dinosaur museum’ dance session.  The children worked as a small group to make a T-Rex.  Watch out, there were some very gruesome ones!

We learned all about Mary Anning the famous fossil hunter.  The children were enthralled by her life story.

We finished a very busy week off by excavating some dinosaur bones and testing the flight of a ‘Pipette-a-saurus’.

We had a special dinosaur expert come to visit.  The children loved listening to his amazing dinosaur facts.

There was a serious security breach at the end of our week, when Terry the T-Rex was spotted by the CCTV.  Mrs York had left some dinosaur food out!

Mrs Hobson managed to get Terry under control and we used a tally to check all dinosaurs were in their own habitats.
