Head teacher’s update
It has been a great start to what will be a very busy half term. It was lovely to welcome the children back to school, on Tuesday and we have had a very settled and productive first week back. I hope that you all received the letter sent yesterday regarding dates and times of the festive events that we have coming up. The letter can be found in the parents’ area of the website and we have now updated the calendar.
If your child belongs to any of the uniformed groups, such as brownies, scouts etc, they are able to wear their representative uniform to school for remembrance on Tuesday 11th November. All other children will attend in school uniform, as usual.
Thank you all for your support with the new start to the day arrangements. We have certainly felt the benefits in school, with a much calmer and more settled start to the morning.
Well done to our tag rugby team who took part in a tournament, on Tuesday. You represented our school brilliantly and we are very proud of your performance and behaviour. Thank you.
I am sure that you will be as delighted as we were, to hear that Miss Slater’s baby girl arrived safely, on Monday evening.
Collective Worship
This week, we have been thinking about our core value of generosity. Generosity is certainly a value that we are very confident with, here at Church of the Ascension. It is the value that we celebrate most in praise assembly every week, with lots of examples of how children have been generous with their time, friendship and talents. We thought about the story of the Generous Widow Mark 12:41 – 44. Jesus noticed the offerings of the rich and then noticed the poor widow who had very little, but gave everything that she had. Jesus used the example of the generous widow to his disciples. We then read the wonderful story of the Rainbow Fish and reflected on how positive Rainbow Fish felt when he finally learnt the value of generosity.

Christmas Fayre
We need your help!
The H.S.A Christmas Fayre will be taking place in school On Friday 5th December from 5pm-7pm and we desperately need your help!
In order for these events to run we need volunteers to run stalls, help set up and tidy up, help serve food/drinks. If you can offer any help at all we would be very grateful to hear from you! Perhaps you can get a friend or family member to come along and help you too!!
These events are vital for raising much needed funds to help school provide the best possible experience for your child and they can only run with help from all of you!
If you can help, please either contact the school office or a member of the H.S.A – please also see the H.S.A Facebook page.
Thank you for your continued support.

Soul Food

SOUL FOOD this Tuesday 11th November 5pm, at Church of Ascension Church.
Starting with some tasty tea-time food!
Music, bible stories, making friends and reflective time
Everybody welcome, come and join the fun.
1-2B Forest School
Class 1–2B had a fantastic Forest School session today! We made poppy God’s eyes and poppy wood cookie necklaces to remember and reflect for Remembrance Sunday. There was plenty of muddy fun — digging in the mud pit and creating in the mud kitchen.
We then toasted pancakes over the fire and enjoyed a warm hot chocolate before finishing off with our favourite game, Sneaky Bob!
All things Bonfire night!
In year 1 and 2 we have been learning all about Guy Fawkes and the very local links to Holbeche house. When the plot was discovered and Guy Fawkes was arrested guarding the gunpowder in the cellars of parliament, the other plotters fled London. They rode north to Holbeche house in our very on Kingswinford! The survivors sought refuge there on 7th November 1605. It didn’t take long for the King’s men to find them and capture them!
This has inspired our English lessons where we are beginning to think about Bonfire night poetry! Please share any pictures of Bonfire events over the weekend with us. Email via info@chur-ascen.dudley.sch.uk

Chalky’s Birthday
Today was Chalky the Church Mouse’s 5th birthday. The children have been so busy all week preparing for his birthday party.
We made a to do list:
wrap a present and write a tag
make a birthday card
make decorations
make party food
get a birthday cake
get ready for party games
The children worked hard to get ready for the party and then this afternoon we had a fantastic birthday celebration. It was heard several times that “THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!”

Chalky is one lucky little mouse to have such amazing Ascension friends!
